KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTSAHAN YOJANA (KVPY)

WHAT IS KVPY ?

The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowship in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to promote and encourage highly driven students to opt for research careers in basic science courses.
The objective of the program is to identify students with talent and aptitude for research; help them realize their academic potential; encourage them to take up research careers in Science, and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.
WHY TO GIVE KVPY EXAM ?

1.   The most important advantage of the exam is that, it is a national level competitive exam where a number of students give the exam, a true competition exists between the students and will definitely give a open opportunity to each and every student to show his/her talent.
2.   If you are a science enthusiastic and wants to pursue your career in science, you can study in India’s top institute i.e. IISc, by clearing KVPY (SA) with good rank in class 11 itself.
3.   The badge of being a KVPY Scholar is a prestigious one and it provides direct admission to top institutes like IISc and the various IISERs. You can also get admission into IIIT-Hyderabad, which is considered as one of the best institute for computer science.
4.   After clearing KVPY, you will receive scholarship (monthly and yearly) during your basic science course (3 year or 5 Year integrated course). The details of exact scholarship amount is given below in next section.
5.   For JEE aspirants, the KVPY exam is a good opportunity to test concepts understanding and application of logic, which is required to clear JEE Main and JEE Advanced. NEET aspirants can test their PCB concepts through KVPY exam.
6.   You will have less pressure of class 12 board or JEE/NEET preparation. You will know that you are already qualified to study in top Indian institutes.
7.   KVPY is a tough exam (difficult than JEE Main). Being called as a KVPY fellow (scholar) speaks volume of your ability and hardwork.
8.   A KVPY scholar is allowed free entry to all National libraries in the country! You will be able to attend all science camps.
9.   Having qualified and attending interview at such a young age is going to help you in future, irrespective of whether you are selected for KVPY fellowship or not.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The KVPY Fellowships are given to Indian Nationals to Study in India
Students intending to pursue/pursing under graduate program under Distance Education scheme/correspondence course of any university are not eligible to apply.

SUBJECT-WISE PREPARATION PLAN -

Solving skills and concept clarity are needed to crack KVPY. It is imperative that you concentrate on each subject and prepare a time table around it.

• Physics: This section is usually tough in KVPY. Lots of questions are asked from Optics and Resistor Series. Even in SA, few questions are asked from class 12 syllabus such as Lens Maker’s Formula and Kirchhoff’s rules. If physics is your strong point, you will have an advantage over others.

• Chemistry: It is easier when compared to physics. Amongst PCM, this section will take the least amount of your time. For SA, revise simple reactions from class 10 too. Most of the questions are reaction or property based, very few questions will be numerical based. You’re expected to have a thorough knowledge of chemical bonding, organic and physical chemistry.

• Mathematics: KVPY math is of moderate to tough difficulty level. You must prepare very well for it. Build upon your basics of class 10 for SA. For SX, you need a complete preparation of class 11 and 12 portions. Substitution and trial and error methods also works for this subject but might take up a lot of your time.

• Biology: Bio is considered the easiest section in KVPY. It is highly scoring. If you are a PCM student, you will not be able to find time for class 11 or 12 biology. But the good news is that if you go through class 9 and 10 biology, you will clear this section.
