WHAT IS NTSE ?
The National
Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a National Level scholarship program in
India to bringing about qualitative improvement in school education in the
country to pursue higher education in Science and Social Studies streams.
The
examination is conducted at two levels i.e. first, state-level talent search
examination and then, National Level Talent Search Examination. Under this
scheme a student can easily judge where he or she stands in the national level
by competing with other students in all India level. As it is organized by an
official body (NCERT), it is widely regarded as the most prestigious
examination at high school level in India.
WHY
A STUDENT SHOULD I APPEAR IN NTSE ?
A student should
give the NTSE exam due to some of the basic reasons -
- In this competitive world we know that a student has to face this competitive world and after Class 12th a student has to give many entrance examination and NTSE is one of the most prestigious scholarship examinations for a secondary level student in India.
- An NTSE scholar commands tremendous respect in the society. Around 1000 NTSE Scholars are finally awarded scholarships based on Stage – II.
- It honours talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. The scholarships under the present scheme are awarded to the candidates for pursuing courses in sciences and social sciences up to doctoral level and in professional courses like medicine and engineering up to second-degree level subject to the fulfillment of the conditions.
ELIGIBILITY
CRITERIA -
NTSE is held in
two stages and different eligibility criteria apply for each stage:
STAGE 1 OR THE STATE LEVEL NTSE 2016
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
Only Class X Indian students from a
State or Union Territory recognized school who have secured at least 60% marks
during their class IX exams can sit for the test. The minimum percentage of
students belonging to SC/ST/PH category is 55% (5% relaxation).
STAGE 2 OR THE NATIONAL LEVEL NTSE
2016 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The students who secured at least 80%
marks in the state level NTSE can appear for the stage 2 national level exam.
All the students who achieve requisite scores at this level automatically
qualify for scholarships that are handed over by NCERT.
Exam outlines (MAT and SAT):
Each question of
the exam comprises of four alternatives, out of which the students have
to select the best-suited answer.
- The correct answer marked earns 1 mark.
- The complete score is equal to the number of correct answers successfully served by the students.
NTSE 2019 Application Form
Candidates can fill application form through both the online
and offline modes. Application form will be distributed
separately by different states. Last date of application
submission also varies from state to state.
- Some general guidelines regarding the form filling process are as discussed below.
- If downloading, then while taking the printout use legal 8.5” * 14” size paper.
- Application form available online or with State/ UT liaison officer is only applicable for Stage 1 exam.
- Candidates have to pay the application fee as prescribed by their respective State/UT.
- While filling NTSE 2019 Application Form candidates or the principle have to leave the 4-digit center code blank, this has to be filled by the liaison officer or concerned district officer or center superintendent.
How to fill NTSE Form ?
The process of form filling is different for Indian students who
are studying in their home country and Indian students studying abroad. The
details are provided below.
Indian Students
1. Candidates must download
the application form available on the official NCERT website.
2. After filling in all
fields, the applicant must get the form signed by the principal of his school.
3. Then the application
form must be submitted to the State Liaison Officer before the last date of
submission.
Indian Students Studying Abroad
1. Such candidates can
directly apply for Stage 2 of NTSE exam.
2. The application form
will have to be downloaded from the website.
3. The duly filled in
application must be sent with a photocopy of the mark sheet of the previous
exam to the following address:

NTSE 2020 Exam
Pattern
NTSE Exam is conducted in two stages i.e. Stage 1 and Stage
2. Stage 1 is a state level examination conducted by authorities of
various states and union territories. Stage 2 is a national level examination
conducted by NCERT for Stage 1 qualifiers and Indian nationals studying abroad
as they are exempted from stage 1 exam. The pattern for both the Stage 1
and Stage 2 exam is same.
- NTSE Exam is an offline test. Candidates have to mark their answers in OMR sheets.
- The exam is divided into two papers. Paper 1 is Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Paper 2 is Scholastic Ability Test (SAT).
- The medium of Stage 1 exam is specified by respective state authorities while Stage 2 exam is offered in Asamiya, Bangla, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu language.
- There is no negative marking applicable in NTSE 2020.

NTSE 2020 SYLLABUS
